Cedar Grove Upgrades to SDL Enterprise License

SOMERSET, NJ – October 23, 2017 – The Township of Cedar Grove, of Essex County, has upgraded to the SDL Enterprise License. Cedar Grove has been utilizing the SDL Desktop software since they became a client in 2011, when they launched the software in their water department.

After the upgrade to Enterprise, the water department will continue their use of SDL Desktop, while taking advantage of the additional software features available on the Enterprise License.  With the upgrade, they will now also have access to the SDL Portal and SDL Mobile app, as well as the recently released SDL Citizen app.

With the SDL Mobile app, inspectors have the capability of scheduling, locating and completing inspections from in the field, while data syncs in real-time to the Desktop software. Citizens are able to request inspections, submit forms or access property and town data with the use of the SDL Portal or SDL Citizen.

We are thrilled to be able to continue working with  Cedar Grove, and we are looking forward to assisting them with the implementation of SDL Portal, SDL Mobile and SDL Citizen.

Lacey Township Selects SDL Enterprise License

SOMERSET, NJ – October 20, 2017 – Lacey Township, of Ocean County, has recently selected the SDL Enterprise License for use throughout their municipal departments. With the Enterprise License, Lacey will have access to all SDL Software, spanning across the four platforms: SDL Desktop, SDL Portal, SDL Mobile and the recently released SDL Citizen app.

SDL Desktop is the core of the SDL software, working in tandem with SDL Mobile, SDL Portal and SDL Citizen to provide municipal employees and citizens the most accurate data. SDL Mobile allows inspectors to update and complete inspections from in the field, while SDL Citizen provides the same mobile convenience to public users wishing to submit requests, forms or complaints.

Lacey will be utilizing the SDL Software within multiple departments, including Building, Code Enforcement, Land Use, Health and Pet Licensing. We are very happy to have Lacey as a new client and we look forward to assisting them with the implementation of the software.

 

New Jersey Association for Floodplain Management: 13th Annual Conference

Borough of Dumont Selects SDL Enterprise License

SOMERSET, NJ – September 25, 2017 – The Borough of Dumont, of Bergen County, has selected the SDL Enterprise License for use within their municipality. The Enterprise License provides Dumont with use of the SDL Municipal Management Software, spanning across all four platforms: SDL Desktop, SDL Portal, SDL Mobile and the recently released SDL Citizen app.

SDL Desktop works in tandem with SDL Mobile, SDL Portal and SDL Citizen to provide municipal employees and citizens with the most up-to-date information at all times. SDL Mobile allows inspectors to update and complete inspections from in the field, while SDL Citizen provides the same mobile convenience to public users wishing to submit requests, forms or complaints.

Currently, Dumont has chosen to utilize the SDL Software in their Building department. We are thrilled that Dumont has come on board with SDL and we look forward to assisting them with the implementation of the software.

SDL Portal Update – September 2017

Tenancy Management

Tenancy management has been included in SDL’s desktop software for many years. It deals with the management of units on any one property, and all of the data associated with them, such as:
  • Landlord Registrations
  • CCO/Rental regulations
  • Certificates of Habitability
  • Rental Agreements
  • Rent Leveling Applications
  • Tenant Roster
  • Room Dimensions
  • Emergency Contacts
  • In-County Agents
  • Fuel Providers
We now have the capability of managing this by your constituents through the SDL Portal. The SDL Portal Property Management system was built to manage a town’s landlord, rental and rent control registrations and updates. It is meant to work as a fully integrated system between portal users and landlords, tenants and property owners. With this system, there is no more need for paper forms or redundant data entry. SDL Desktop users on the portal will now be able to see a new SDL Portal Property Management section on the property page: this section is hidden from public users until you enable Property Management on the portal.

Building Permit Plan Review

There have been some useful new enhancements added to the Portal, regarding the Plan Review status for building permits. There is now a new Plan Review section on the permit page, added in order to display when there is plan review data available for the select permit. Additionally, SDL Desktop users have the option to flag both general and reason for failure notes, which will also be displayed on this page of the Portal. Permit status update emails will provide a limited view of this section, with links to more information. Status changes for each plan review subcode  – not just the permit status overall updates – will now trigger a permit status update email.

We highly encourage users to add custom Help questions and answers for next steps for citizens, for instances when a Plan Review fails or is in a pending status. Contact our Support team for help adding custom FAQs for your building permits and plan reviews.

Property Page – New Sections

We have added two new sections to the property page – one features links to Tax Map sheets for the select property, while the other features a list of Attachments/Files associated with the property. Tax Maps associated with a property will be displayed for all public users. Attachments will only be displayed when an SDL Desktop user has flagged that file for Portal display. Two permission options are available for this feature – one will display the attachments for SDL users only, and the other will display for all users, public included. Links to open or download those attachments are available for only select file types at this time: pdf, jpg or png. You will see the new attachment section on the permit pages as well, but they will only  display attachments specific to that permit.

City of Summit Selects SDL Enterprise License

SOMERSET, NJ – August 23rd, 2017 – The City of Summit, of Union County, has recently selected the SDL Enterprise License for use throughout their municipal departments. With the Enterprise License, Summit will have access to the SDL Desktop software, in addition to SDL Portal, SDL Mobile and the recently developed SDL Citizen app.

Summit will be utilizing SDL’s municipal management software within their Building, Code Enforcement and Land Use Departments. We are happy to have Summit as a new client and look forward to assisting them with the implementation of the SDL Software.

Township of West Milford Upgrades to Enterprise License

SOMERSET, NJ – August 11, 2017 – The Township of West Milford, of Passaic County, has recently upgraded to the SDL Enterprise License. West Milford has had use of the SDL Desktop software since they became a client in 2009. With this new upgrade, they will now also have access to the SDL Portal and SDL Mobile app, as well as the recently released SDL Citizen app.

When West Milford initially became a client, they launched the software within their Building, Engineering, Public Works and Land Use departments. In 2012, they further expanded the use of the software to include their Fire Prevention department. After the upgrade to Enterprise, West Milford will be utilizing these software platforms throughout a number of their municipal offices, including Building, Land Use, Health, Pet Licensing, Engineering, Assessment and Fire Prevention.

With this upgrade to the Enterprise License, West Milford’s municipal employees, officials and citizens will have access to a multitude of additional features and functionality than those provided by SDL Desktop alone. With the SDL Mobile app, inspectors have the capability of scheduling, locating and completing inspections from in the field, while data syncs in real-time to the Desktop software. Citizens are able to request inspections, submit forms or access property and town data with the use of the SDL Portal or SDL Citizen.

SDL Portal Update – July 2017

SDL has just released the latest version of the SDL Portal. With this release, we are introducing two new features, along with a handful of small fixes and improvements. In addition to these improvements, some behind-the-scenes work has been done, in order to integrate the Portal with the new SDL Citizen App.

Notification Updates

Following up on the new features of the last release, we have added custom text fields for permit and inspection email notifications. This will allow for town-specific information such as phone numbers, addresses or other important notes to be added to the Permit Status emails, the Inspection Status emails and the Inspection Reminder Emails. You will need to go to the new Town Admin/Notifications section under Settings in order to configure your text.

Additionally under the new Notifications area, you will see Town Alerts, one of our new features. Town Alerts is a simple Alert messaging system for your town’s portal users. You can choose to display an alert on the portal Alert page and in the new embedded Alert widget, as well as send that Alert as a notification to your town’s portal users. Contact the Support team for more information on this feature.

 

 

Portal Help Widget

To provide more targeted assistance to portal users, we have added a new Help widget that will appear in the lower right hand corner of all portal pages, previously where the Support option existed. The Help widget defaults to displaying page-specific questions and answers that reflect your town’s current settings, such as whether or not inspections can be scheduled online.

In addition, for most questions you can provide custom contact information by phone or email and a url link for more information. You can even provide your own custom answers if the default are not applicable to your town. Additionally, if our questions do not cover all of your specific frequently asked questions, you have the ability to add your own custom questions and answers to better serve your portal users.

We have found that many questions cannot be fielded by our support team and require a town official to provide specific help for that user. By adding custom contact information or answers for these specific questions, portal users will need to take fewer steps in order to find the answers they are looking for.

Manchester Township Upgrades to Enterprise License

SOMERSET, NJ – June 20, 2017 – Manchester Township, of Ocean County, has chosen to upgrade their SDL Software to the SDL Enterprise License. With their previous license, Manchester had use of the SDL Desktop software within their municipality. Because of the upgrade to the Enterprise License, Manchester will now be able to utilize SDL Portal, SDL Mobile and the recently developed SDL Citizen app.

Manchester has been a client of SDL’s since 2012, when they selected SDL’s Desktop software for use in select departments throughout the municipality. After their upgrade to the Enterprise License, Manchester will be primarily utilizing the SDL software within Fire Prevention and other departments.

With the Enterprise License, Manchester’s municipal employees and citizens will have access to more features and functionality than SDL Desktop alone can provide. Town officials, administrators and citizens will now be able to utilize SDL Portal, an online platform designed to conveniently store and display predetermined town data, forms and requests. Public users will also have access to the SDL Citizen app, a recently developed platform created to provide citizens with the ability to submit requests and view town data from their mobile devices. With SDL Mobile, municipal inspectors are also provided the convenience of being completely mobile, with the functionality to schedule, complete and edit inspections from in the field.

We are happy to be able to continue to work with Manchester as a client, and we are looking forward to assisting them with the implementation of SDL Portal, SDL Mobile and SDL Citizen throughout their offices.

SDL Portal Update – May 2017

You may notice right away a few changes to the look and feel of some pages on the SDL Portal, in particular our newly redesigned Property, Permit, Inspection and Request pages. However, there are a number of other new features and updates in this month’s release that we want to make sure you know about.

Complaint and Building Inspection Requests Updates

We have redesigned Complaint Web Requests, giving it a single page format to improve usability both on a desktop and on a mobile device. Additionally, we have added a filter by department option to help users find what they need. The location lookup has been completely redesigned; users can still search by address or street name, but they now also have the added ability of searching  using a business or location name.

Finally, we have added a new feature that you will need to enable, which we are calling ‘Auto Create’. Auto Create will automatically accept a new web request and create a new desktop Complaint for any request templates that have a valid default department and default user assigned to them. This has been added in order to help streamline the process.

Along with Complaint Requests, we have also updated Inspection Requests to the new single page format. We rewrote the permit search process in order to improve findability for the end user, removed ‘closed’ permits as a selectable option and added the inspection type to the user notification.

 

In regards to all request types, we have added the ability for end users to ‘Cancel’ their request when it is still in a ‘Submitted’ status, and have moved our virus scan process to behind the scenes so that attaching files to a request will be substantially faster for the end user.   

                    

Embedded Features for your Town Websites

Part of our redesign of Complaint and Inspection Requests involved optimizing these requests to be better integrated into your town websites, so that users do not have to navigate between multiple sites to submit a complaint or schedule an inspection. These two request types are now available in ‘Small Format’ widgets,  which are barebones versions of a request, meant to seamlessly be embedded anywhere on your site.

In addition, we are working on making a number of popular portal features available as embedded widgets, the first of which is now available – a ‘Permit Status Lookup’ that looks and performs the same as the one available on your portal home page, but is available directly on your site for users to quickly access the information they are looking for.

Tracking Property Changes

Knowing that a property has recently been updated has always been available in your Portal but finding what exactly has changed was previously a manual process. In this new version, we provide a “Recent Changes” section on all Property pages for SDL Users (for now, no public users). It displays field level details about what has changed including the previous and newly updated values. So if TCO becomes a CO, a new Pet is registered, a health inspection fails or the notes on a Zoning application change, this section will give you all the details. Property Changes are part of our larger Property Engine currently running in the cloud and we’ll have a lot more to talk about it in the future. Your properties and the everyday changes that occur on them are the heartbeat of your city and we plan on providing you more notification and services around this valuable resource!

Portal User Account Updates

User account pages had some minor updates and optimizations for mobile devices as well. We added lists for user Permits, Recent Inspections and two new features. First, we reworked the account validation process so a user can start that process from anywhere on the portal where the additional validation is required. Second, we added in a Notification preferences section to allow users to enable or disable what they want to be notified about and how they would like to be notified. In addition to email notification, users can opt for text messages, or push notifications if they have an SDL Citizen app installed. Request, Permit and Inspection notification preferences are available and we will be rolling out Property Changes and Town Messaging in our next versions of the portal.
